Meet the Team

Hello! I’m Rj Hebner and my mission is to help as many people and dogs as I possibly can, because what I love most about what I do is the difference I can make in the quality of life for you and your dog.

My earliest memory is seeing my German Shepard puppy killed by a car because he wouldn’t come as I desperately called to him. This tragedy became imprinted on my young character and it propelled me into an early obsession with dog training. I never wanted to go through that again and as my skills with dogs developed, I began helping other people avoid the same fate. This story is all too common even among adult dog owners. So if there’s one message to take away from my experience, it’s never too early to start training. Your dog’s life can literally depend on it.

In my early 20’s I began helping dog rescues, no kill shelters, and foster families. The more I worked with these dogs, the more I grew a special place in my heart for the hopeless cases who were continually returned or could not be homed because of undesirable behaviors. Those dogs became my primary focus and pretty soon I had a reputation for rehabilitating aggression and severe behavior problems.

Since then I’ve successfully trained thousands of dogs, along with several misfit rescue dogs of my own. Before moving back to my hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, I was voted best dog trainer in Phoenix in 2019; and voted second in 2018. I was born in Baltimore and that’s why I’m so excited to have brought more than 25 years of experience and my holistic training approach back to my hometown to serve the Baltimore / Washington DC area.

Hello! My name is Rosie Kenney. My whole life I’ve been drawn to animals, especially dogs. Their ability to love unconditionally and connect on a deep level has always moved me.

I began training dogs nine years ago while living in Thailand. I had a large pack of street dogs who I cared for and spent all of my free time with. I was amazed by their ability to trust and love after facing a lifetime of hardship living on the streets. I took the dogs into my home and worked with them, eventually finding them the perfect forever homes.

Eager to learn more about how I could help underdogs like my pack, I went on to spend three months volunteering with Soi Dog Foundation, a rescue that specializes in the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of street animals. I spent my days walking dogs, teaching them basic obedience and helping them build their confidence. I learned valuable lessons from each dog and found my true passion for rehabilitation.

Upon returning to the USA, I started my own dog hiking business where I took dogs on confidence building adventures and taught them off-leash obedience. During that time, I began working with Cartagena Paws. I served as Co-director and Adoption Coordinator for two years.  I oversaw countless adoptions, flew animals all over the country to their forever homes and supported adopters with training support while their dogs adjusted to life in a home environment. I was featured on Animal Planet for my work with the organization, which I still volunteer with today.

Fast forward several years to when Rj and I met. Upon first meeting, we quickly realized our paths crossed for a reason. Our love for the dogs, their people and our determination to help them live their best lives possible, inspired us to start Calm On Command K9.
